Effingham High School picked up both a freshman and a sophomore boys basketball victory over Flora Saturday.

The Hearts claimed the freshman contest 46-40. The Wolves edged out to a 14-12 opening quarter lead and led 20-18 at halftime. The Hearts came back to lead 32-31 going into the final quarter then had a 14-9 run.

Ryan Sandifer and Mason Hull tallied 13 points each for the Hearts.

Effingham handed Flora a 50-40 loss in the sophomore game. Flora led 20-18 at halftime before the Hearts had a 14-8 third quarter run on Trevor Kreke's eight points and Harrison Smith's six.

Kreke finished with 24 points to lead EHS.

At Taylorville

Effingham suffered a loss then picked up a win in the consolation championship of the Taylorville Freshman Girls Basketball Tournament Saturday.

The Hearts fell to Springfield 50-38 in the first game. Myers scored 12 and Barr 10 for the Hearts.

In the consolation championship, Effingham downed Springfield Sacred Heart Griffin 36-30. The Hearts were led by Barr with 14 and Myers with 12.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis claimed two freshman/sophomore girls victories over Paris Saturday.

T-town stepped out to a 21-0 first quarter lead in freshman action and went on for a 62-25 win.

Three players hit double digits for the Wooden Shoes. Marianna Hemmen talleid 18, Jolene Bueker 15 and Bailey Schumacher 10.

In the sophomore game, T-town pounded out to a 28-11 halftime lead and nabbed a 53-23 win over Paris.

Jolene Bueker led the winners with 12 points.
