Altamont and Teutopolis Eliminated in Eighth Grade State Tournament Play

Altamont and Teutopolis were eliminated Saturday in quarterfinal action at girls eighth grade state tournaments.

At the 8-2A State Tournament in Riverton, Winchester edged Altamont, 42-40. Altamont ends its season with a 22-4 record. 

Altamont took a 13-8 first quarter lead, but Winchester had the game tied at 18-18 at halftime. It was 30-30 after three quarters, but Winchester outpointed Altamont 12-10 in the final quarter to post a two-point win. Winchester's Annika Kaufmann scored 34 of her team's 42 points.

For Altamont, Mary Guse led the way with 17 points, Joanna Schultz scored eight points, Leah Mayhaus seven, and Katie Grimsley and Tinley Mette four each.

At the 8-3A State Tournament in Germantown, Eureka got by Teutopolis, 29-26. Teutopolis ends its season with an 18-8 record.

Teutopolis led 8-4 after the first quarter, and 13-8 at halftime, but Eureka started a second half comeback, pulling to within 21-18 after three quarters, and then outscoring the Shoes 11-5 in the fourth quarter. 

Emma Deters led Teutopolis with nine points, Olivia Niemerg and Morgan Mette each scored six points, Claire Bushur scored three, and Julia Frey scored two points.
