Teutopolis Seventh-Grade Girls Claim State Basketball Title

AUBURN -- Teutopolis Junior High School's seventh-grade girls basketball squad captured the Class 7-3A State Tournament championship Thursday evening.

Teutopolis squared off against St. Joseph and the two squads had a defensive battle throughout. T-town held a 6-2 first quarter lead and led 10-7 at halftime.  Both teams tallied seven in the third quarter and nine in the final period.

Olivia Niemerg led T-town with 13 points. Hannah Dukeman led St. Joseph with 14. T-town ends the season with a perfect 28-0 record. St. Joseph finishes at 24-2 with both losses this year coming at the hands of Teutopolis.

The third place game went to Pleasant Plains over Peotone 43-21.

The girls and their coaches will be honored for their accomplishments with a parade/fire truck ride beginning at Teutopolis Junior High School at 1:30 p.m. Sunday. There will be a reception to follow in James A. Hakman Gymnasium at Teutopolis Junior High School.

In the Class 7-1A State Tournament, Decatur Our Lady of Lourdes downed Pontiac St. Mary's 37-10 for third place while Lincoln West Lincoln-Broadwell defeated Jacksonville Our Saviour 38-27 for the championship.

In the Class 7-2A State Tournament, Assumption Central A&M edged Princeville 33-31 for third place. Colfax Ridgeview downed Lewistown Central 36-33 for the state title.
