St. Anthony Posts Win at Altamont in Girls Hoop Action

The St. Anthony Bulldogs downed the Altamont Lady Indians 36-19 in National Trail Conference girls basketball action Monday night. The game was heard on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com.  

Neither team shot the ball well; St. Anthony led the game 5-3 after the first quarter. The Bulldogs posted a 12-6 advantage in the second period to lead the contest 17-9 at halftime and had pushed the advantage to 26-13 after three quarters. A 10-6 Bulldogs' advantage in the fourth quarter accounted for the final score.

The Bulldogs made just 14 of 51 shots for 27%, hit just seven of 15 foul shots, committed 16 turnovers and pulled down 35 rebounds while making one of seven three-point tries.

However, Altamont made only seven of 34 shots for 21%. The Indians made five of six foul shots, committed a whopping 27 turnovers, grabbed 20 rebounds, and missed all three of their three-point attempts.

The standout in the contest was St. Anthony's Megan Nuxoll, who scored 20 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Also for St. Anthony: Hunter Niebrugge 4, Emily McDevitt 4, Abbie Schmidt 2, Abby Brown 2, Maddie Schuette 2, and Kyla Burton 2. Schmidt added seven rebounds for the Bulldogs.

Brooke Burns scored six points to lead Altamont, even though she missed time with an injury. Elizabeth Biggs and Keidron Duckwitz each scored four points, Jacie Hosick three, and Margeaux Stuckemeyer two.

Altamont was hurt by a knee injury in the contest to Danielle Vaughn.

St. Anthony improved to 5-4 with the win, while Altamont fell to 1-7.
