Effingham St. Anthony captured two wins over visiting Altamont Lutheran in boys junior high basketball play Monday evening.

The Bullpups downed Altamont Lutheran 40-18 in the seventh-grade game. St. Anthony led 19-10 at halftime then had an 18-2 third quarter surge. Litke scored 10 for the winners. Duckwitz led Altamont Lutheran with 10.

In eighth-grade play, St. Anthony led 7-6 after one period and then had a 35-12 run over the next two quarters for a 50-20 win.

Strullmeyer scored 15 and Brandenburger 12 for the Bullpups. Duckwitz scored eight for Altamont Lutheran.

At Salem

Effingham traveled to Salem Franklin Park and fell in seventh-grade action, 43-36 Tuesday evening.

"We played with a lot of heart but just couldn't get enough shots to fall," said EJHS Coach Mike Walker.

Effingham trailed 11-7 after the opening quarter and 22-16 at half. Franklin Park pushed the lead to 10 after three quarters. The Mustangs got it back down to five but couldn't complete the comeback. Effingham placed 11 different players in the scoring colum led by Austin Waldhoff and Carson Utz with six each. Utz led in rebounding with five followed by Clayton Ramsey and Kyle Pemberton with four each.

Effingham then bounced Salem Franklin Park 62-38 in eighth-grade competition. The Mustangs shot 44 percent from the field and 88 percent at the line.

Wolfe tallied a whopping 30 points and pulled down 16 rebounds. Jackson scored 12. Bushur had four steals and seven rebounds. Rich pulled down nine boards.

Effingham is now 7-1 on the season.

At Salem

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis split with Marshall in action Tuesday evening.

Marshall won the seventh-grade game 32-22. Marshall had a 7-3 second period run and outscored the Shoes 15-5 in the final quarter.

T-town was led by Luke Ungrund with seven points.

In eighth-grade play, Marshall stepped out to a 30-10 halftime lead but T-town roared back with a 28-8 second half run to knot the score at 38-38 sending the game into overtime. T-town then finished the comeback with a 4-1 run for a 42-39 victory.

Joah Hardiek led the way with 13 points while Dawson Smith added 11.

Robinson came calling and handed Jasper County two losses. Robinson won the seventh-grade game 51-45. Jasper County was led by Tharp with 15 and Schafer with 14 points.

In eighth-grade play, Robinson won 38-14. Robinson stepped out to a 13-2 first quarter lead and never looked back. Conner Bierman led Jasper County with four points.
