In a seventh-grade boys basketball contest, Effingham came from behind to grab a 28-24 victory over Charleston Thursday evening.

Effingham held a slim one point lead 7-6 after one quarter, but the Mustangs were outscored 14-10 over the middle two quarters and trailed 20-17 going into the fourth quarter. The Mustangs outscored Charleston 11-4 to secure the win.  

The Mustangs were led in scoring by Parker Siner with eight points, six coming in the deciding fourth quarter on two three-pointers. Sam Thompson led the team in rebounding with five and Kyle Nohren tallied six steals.

Effingham is 2-3 on the young season, and returns to action Saturday traveling to play Champaign Edison.

In a seventh-grade B game, Effingham won 12-8 over Charleston. Aiden Beck and Carson Utz had four points each for the Mustangs.

The eighth-grade squad pummeled Charleston 53-22. The Mustangs stepped out to a 26-4 opening quarter lead and the game was in the win column.

Wolfe tallied 20 for the winners and pulled down three rebounds. Lee chipped in with eight points and seven rebounds. Bushur had six points and three steals. Hagler tallied eight points.

At Effingham

In seventh-grade action, Altamont handed Effingham Sacred Heart a 48-16 loss Thursday evening.

Altamont jumped out to an 18-0 first quarter lead. Kollmann tallied eight points in the quarter and would go on to lead the winners with 19.

Sacred Heart was led by Brady Conkling with 10 points.

At Newton

Teutopolis claimed two victories over Jasper County Thursday evening.

T-town was a 41-16 winner in the seventh-grade contest. T-town held a 16-9 first half lead then had a 25-4 second period run.

Mitch Hardiek led the winners iwth 17 points. Shafer led Jasper County with eight.

In the eighth-grade game, T-town was a 25-17 winner. T-town took a 13-8 first half lead then held off Jasper County in the second half.

Clint Weber scored 10 for the winners. Finn led Jasper County with seven.

At Strasburg

Sigel St. Michael came calling and handed Stewardson-Strasburg two losses Thursday evening.

St. Michael was a 32-6 winner in seventh-grade competition. St. Michael stepped out to a 12-4 opening quarter lead and then had an 8-0 run in the third quarter. C. Walk led St. Michael with 14 points. Kirby scored all six points for Stew-Stras which drops to 2-4.

In the eighth-grade contest, St. Michael captured a 37-24 win. St. Michael led 22-11 at halftime. Hoene scored 18 and Wolke chipped in with 10. Burton led Stew-Stras (1-5) with six.
