Effingham St. Anthony Junior High School captured its own eighth-grade boys basketball tournament Saturday.

In the opening game, Greenville defeated Stewardson-Strasburg 47-14. A. Burton led Stew-Stras with seven points.

The second contest went to the Bullpups over Cumberland 32-23. St. Anthony had a 15-13 halftime lead then had a 17-10 second half run. Wall tallied 10 for the winners. Cumberland was led by McGinnis with 11.

In the third place game, Cumberland was a 43-21 winner over Stew-Stras. Cumberland took a 19-6 first half lead then had a 20-8 final period run. McGinnis tallied 13 and Gerhardt 10 for the winners. Stew-Stras was led by Roley with seven.

In the championship game, St. Anthony edged Greenville 37-36 in overtime. Greenville held a 15-12 halftime lead and a 24-21 lead going into the final quarter. St. Anthony then had a 9-6 run to knot the score. In the overtime period, St. Anthony had a 7-6 edge to pull out the win.

Strullmyer scored 11 for St. Anthony.

At Dieterich

The Teutopolis seventh-grade B squad competed in the Dieterich Tournament Friday and picked up a victory over Olney  St. Joe 30-22. Wade Probst tallied 14 points for the winners.

Both the seventh and eighth grade teams took part in the Summersville Shootout Saturday. The seventh-grade squad was a 42-31 winner over Carbondale. Mitch Hardiek had 15 points.

The eighth-grade team was a 26-23 winner over Carbondale. T-town held an 11-9 second period lead then had a 5-3 final quarter edge. Josh Hardiek scored 14 for the winners.

At St. Elmo

St. Elmo/Brownstown captured an eighth-grade win over Altamont Friday, 39-22.

Altamont held a 13-11 first quarter lead but BSE came back with a 6-2 run to lead 17-15 at halftime. SEB then had a 14-4 third period run to put the game into the win column.

Himes tallied 13 for the winners. Altamont weas led by Kuhlman with nine.
