BEECHER CITY -- Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor and Sigel St. Michael advanced in winner bracket play of the National Trail Conference Eighth-Grade Girls Basketball Tournament Thursday.

Stew-Stras/Windsor claimed a 33-19 win over Dieterich. SS/W jumped out to a 12-0 first quarter lead. Mackenzi Tabbert tallied 15 points while Megan Schlechte added 10.

Dieterich was led by Jennifer Robards with nine. Dieterich drops into the consolation bracket.

In the second game, Sigel St. Michael was a 27-18 winner over Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick. St. Michael edged ahead 10-8 in the first half then had a 17-10 second half run.

S. Bueker led the winners with 11 points. Tabitha Endsley led BCCH with 10.

In consolation bracket action play, Effingham Sacred Heart downed Neoga 35-4. The Shamrocks held a 14-4 first half lead then held Neoga scoreless through the second half.

Becca Webster scored 18 for the winners. Sacred Heart advanced to the consolation championship game against either Dieterich or BCCH. Those two teams play tonight at 5:30.

In winner bracket play tonight, Altamont takes on Brownstown/St. Elmo at 6:45 p.m. followed by Stew-Stras/Windsor against Sigel St. Michael at 8. The winners advance to the title contest Saturday at 11:30 a.m. while the losers square off for third place at 10:15 a.m.

At Nokomis

Effingham St. Anthony traveled to Nokomis and picked up two victories Thursday evening.

The Bullpups won the seventh-grade contest 24-21. Nokomis held a 12-8 first half lead and led 17-13 going into the final quarter. St. Anthony tied the score, sending the game into overtime. St. Anthony then had a 3-0 overtime run to pull out the victory.

Katie Rogers scored 14 points for the Bullpups as they improved to 8-5 on the season.

In eighth-grade play, St. Anthony was a 36-14 winner. Meg Richards scored 11 while Clare McHugh added eight. St. Anthony is now 9-2.
