Sigel St. Michael won the championship of the Effingham St. Anthony Seventh-Grade Girls Basketball Tournament Saturday.

St. Michael won the opening game over Cumberland, 22-10. St. Michael held a 20-2 halftime lead. McWhorter tallied 16 for the winners. Lochbaum and Marshall had four points each for Cumberland.

In the second game, St. Anthony edged Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor 18-13. St. Anthony led 10-6 at halftime and Stew-Stras/Windsor came back in the third quarter with four points to tie the score. St. Anthony then had an 8-3 final quarter run. Beesley led the Bullpups with 10 points. Bennett had six points for Stew-Stras/Windsor.

St. Michael and St. Anthony moved into the championship game where St. Michael won 23-14. St. Michael held a slight 13-12 lead going into the final period then had a 10-2 run to pull out the victory. Bueker led the winners with 16 points. Coffin led St. Anthony with six.

In the third place contest, Stew-Stras/Windsor took a 31-14 win over Cumberland. Hayes and Bennett provided the one-two scoring punch with 10 points each. Oakley led Cumberland with six points.

At Bethany

Effingham Junior High School nabbed two victories over Okaw Valley in action Saturday.

The Mustangs won the seventh-grade contest 19-8. Effingham held a 9-2 first half lead then had a 10-2 third quarter run. Niebrugge scored eight for the winners who improve to 3-3.

In eighth-grade play, Effingham won 37-10, taking a 12-0 first quarter lead. Weis and Fox scored 11 points each for the Mustangs. Effingham is now 5-1.

At Teutopollis

Teutopolis downed Marshall in two games Saturday at the Teutopolis Shootout. T-town was a 35-2 winner in seventh-grade action. Claire Bushur tallied 10 points for the winners.

In eighth-grade competition, T-town won 34-9 over Marshall. Eric Michels scored 10 for the homestanders.

In games three and four, Central A&M downed Marshall 33-11 in seventh-grade play and 40-25 in eighth-grade action.

T-town then was a 34-15 winner over Central A&M in seventh-grade competition. Alli Brumleve scored 14 for the winners. T-town improves to 6-0.

In the eighth-grade contest, Central A&M won 29-28. Central A&M came back from an 18-13 deficit in the third period with a 9-4 run to tie the contest then had a 7-6 final period score.

Olivia Niemerg led T-town with nine points. T-town's eighth-grade is 2-4.
