MATTOON -- Lake Land College will be looking for a new head men's basketball coach after Cedric Brown resigned his position after seven years at the helm of the Lakers.

Brown is heading to Mineral Area College in Missouri to become the assistant coach under head coach Corey Tate. The decision came as Brown decided it would be a good move towards heading into a Division I coaching position in the future.

In his seven years at Lake Land, Brown guided the Lakers to 131 victories and suffered 89 losses. Lake Land had six straight winning seasons, making Brown the second winningest coach in the program's history behind Jim Dudley. His teams won the Great Rivers Athletic Conference championship twice. The Lakers finished 22-9 this past season, tying for the GRAC championship.

Coach Tate has guided the Mineral Area College program to five conference titles and two Region 16 championships in his 10 years at the head of the program. Last season the Cardinals finished with a 17-14 record and won the Region 16 title and clinched the MCCAC Conference. Tate is only the third head coach in the program's history.

Resumes for the Lake Land College coaching position will be accepted through Friday. Brown had a teaching position but that teaching position will not be available for the next coach. This will be a part-time position only.
