Spurs Crush Heat To Win NBA Championship

(San Antonio, TX) -- What started in 1999 is still going strong in 2014.  The San Antonio Spurs won their fifth NBA title, dominating the Miami Heat 104-87 in Game Five of the NBA Finals at the AT&T Center, getting revenge for last season's series loss. Kawhi Leonard led the way with 22 points and 10 rebounds, while five-time champion Tim Duncan posted 14 points and eight boards. Manu Ginobili contributed 19 points off the bench and Patty Mills hit five three-pointers on his way to 17 points.

LeBron James did all he could going off for 31 points, 10 rebounds and five assists as he dropped to 2-3 in NBA Finals appearances, with two of the loses coming to Gregg Popovich and the Spurs. Dwyane Wade struggled again, shooting 4-of-12 with 11 points. Chris Bosh was the only other Miami player in double figures with 13 points. This was the Heat's fourth straight finals appearance culminating in a 2-2 record.

Spurs forward Kawhi Leonard is the NBA Finals Most Valuable Player. At 22-years-old, he is the youngest winner of the Bill Russell Award since 1999 when his teammate Tim Duncan took home the honor. Leonard posted 22 points and 10 rebounds in the finale of the best-of-seven series. He averaged nearly 18 points per game during the Finals.
