It was all in all a pretty nice night Monday night as the Teutopolis community welcomed home the Lady Shoes, who finished third in the state in the Class 2A Girls Basketball Tournament.

The Welcome Home was to take place the day after T-Town won the third place game, but the ceremony was weathered out and rescheduled for this week.

The evening began with a ride through Teutopolis on fire trucks, followed by a ceremony in J.H. Griffin Gym.

Teutopolis Athletic Director Andy Johnson served as Master of Ceremonies.  Father Ken Rosswig opened the ceremony with prayer.  Teutopolis Village Board President Greg Hess honored the team and Teutopolis Sportsbackers President Beth Hartke spoke both on behalf of the organization and on behalf of the players' parents since she and her husband Chris are parents of Madeline and Anna Hartke.

Other speakers included Wooden Shoes boys coach Andy Fehrenbacher, Madeline Hartke on behalf of the Lady Shoes players, and Lady Shoes Coach Laurie Thompson.  Laurie gave a recap of the season and encouraged her underclassmen as they get ready for next season and then thanked the seniors.  The seniors leave with a four-year record of 100-27.

Thompson also acknowledged senior Haley Giles, who set a state tournament single game record with five blocked shots.
