Area Players Garner HM On AP All-State Boys Basketball Teams

Three area players garnered Honorable Mention on the Associated Press All-State Boys Basketball Teams.

Altamont High School's Garrett Ziegler, 6-foot senior point guard, took honorable mention for Class 1A while Brett Mette, 6-foot-5 sophomore forward of Teutopolis, took honorable mention for Class 2A as did Newton High School's Luke Stone, a 6-foot-2 senior forward.

Named to the Class 1A First Team were Makur Puou (Mooseheart), 6-foot-10 senior forward; Trevor Lay (Kewanee Wethersfield), 5-foot-10 senior guard; Dalton Shaner (Lanark Eastland), 6-foot-1 senior guard; Brett Benning (Dakota), 6-foot-5 senior guard/forward and Cody Hilderbrand (Payson-Seymour), 6-foot senior guard.

Named to the Second Team were Mangisto Deng (Mooseheart), 6-foot-7 senior guard; Zeke Snell (Goreville), 6-foot-5 senior forward; Wes Degener (Waterloo Gibault), 6-foot-2 senior forward; Carson Cuevas (Brimfield), 6-foot-1 junior guard and Pierson Wofford (Springfield Lutheran), 6-foot-4 junior guard.

Named to the Class 2A First Team were Ethan Happ (Rockridge), 6-foot-8 senior forward; Nick Norton (Bloomington Central), 5-foot-11 senior guard; Tevin King (Providence St. Mel), 6-foot-2 senior guard; Christian Williams (Decatur St. Teresa), 6-foot-6 junior guard and Nate Michael (St. Joseph-Ogden), 6-foot-2 senior guard.

Named to the Second Team were Martel Hunter (Monmouth-Roseville), 5-foot-10 senior guard; Jacob Timmermann (Breese Central), 6-foot senior guard; A.J. Sharp (Sterling Newman), 5-foot-8 senior point guard; Nic Sinclair (Petersburg-PORTA), 5-foot-10 senior guard and Bryan Heath (Rockridge), 6-foot-3 junior guard.
