Illinois Advances Over Indiana

(Indianapolis, IN) -- The ninth-seeded Fighting Illini grabbed a 64-54 win over the Hoosiers to advance in the Big-10 tournament. Tracy Abrams poured in a game-high 25 points and seven rebounds to lead Illinois, who face the top-seeded Michigan Wolverines today in quarterfinal action. Rayvonte Rice added 13 points for the Fighting Illini while Kendrick Nunn contributed 10. Illinois lost the only game to Michigan during the season by a score of 84-53.

 

NCAA Conference Tournaments Are In Full Swing

The path to March Madness hit high gear yesterday as all major conference tournaments are in full swing. The day was headlined by Villanova losing at the buzzer to Seton Hall in the Big East quarterfinals, 64-63.  Kansas defeated Oklahoma State in the Big 12 quarters, 77-70, in overtime behind 30 points from freshman Andrew Wiggins. Houston upset SMU, 68-64, in the quarterfinals of the first ever AAC Tournament.

 

Northwestern upsets Iowa

(Indianapolis, IN) -- The 11th-seeded Wildcats knocked off the sixth-seeded Hawkeyes of Iowa, 67-62, in the opening round of the Big-10 tournament. Tre Demps led the way for the Wildcats with 20 points while Drew Crawford added 15. Dave Sobolewski finished the night with 10 points as Northwestern converted on 52% of their shots. The Wildcats advance to the quarterfinals and will battle Michigan State tonight.

 

DePaul Exits Big East Tourney

(New York, NY) -- The Blue Demons trailed by twenty points at the half and could not recover, falling to Creighton 84-62 in the quarterfinals of the Big East tournament. Brandon Young led the way for DePaul with 22 points and eight rebounds as Jamee Crockett netted 13 off the bench. Doug McDermott led Creighton with 35 points.  DePaul finishes the season with a 12-21 record and went 1-1 in the tournament with a win against Georgetown in the first round.
