The Dieterich Movin' Maroons are breathing rarified air today.

The Maroons came from behind to defeat the St. Anthony Bulldogs 58-51 and captured the Red Hill (Bridgeport) 1A Sectional championship.  The game was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com.

It's the first-ever trip to a super-sectional for Dieterich after just their second appearance in a sectional championship game.

The Movin Maroons had to play catch-up for most of the game.  Dieterich took a 3-0 lead on a bucket by Nick Feldhake, but St. Anthony held a 14-10 lead after one quarter and pushed the advantage to 24-16 at halftime.  The Bulldogs had an 11-point lead on two occasions, but in the second half the shots started to fall for Dieterich and the Movin Maroons closed to within 37-34 after three quarters.

Dieterich regained the lead and posted the win based on great free throw shooting down the stretch with Alex Bohnhoff and Feldhake taking turns cashing in at the line.  Dieterich held a 10-point lead, but St. Anthony got back to within four before the Maroons closed it out and won by eight.  Dieterich made 11 of 17 shots from the field in the second half.  The Maroons scored 42 points in the second half after being held to 16 points in the first half.

Bohnhoff and Feldhake each scored 17 points for Dieterich.  Travis Niemerg was also in double figures with 11 points. Also for Dieterich: Tanner Traub five, Devin Aherin four, and Lance Niemerg two.

Dieterich improved to 23-8 on the season with the win and advanced to the Carbondale 1A Super-Sectional Tuesday at 6pm against Sesser-Valier, who won the Norris City-Omaha-Enfield Sectional with a 58-49 victory over Cairo.

St. Anthony closed its campaign with a 22-11 record, and says goodbye to seniors Neil Williams, Matt Gibson, Alex Hoelscher, John Goeckner, Frank Jansen, Eric Gurtner and Nick Wortman.
