The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes are headed back to the Class 2A State Girls Basketball Tournament.

Teutopolis avenged an earlier loss and handed Breese Central its first defeat of the season, 49-44, to capture the Class 2A Salem Girls Basketball Super-Sectional Monday evening.  The game was heard on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com.

T-town ripped out to a 15-5 opening quarter lead as Madeline Hartke scored 10 of the Shoes' points. Breese Central got untracked in the second period for a slight 13-12 edge to pull within 27-18 at halftime. The Cougars continued with the momentum in the third quarter with a 17-11 run and brought the score down within three points, 38-35, heading into the final quarter.

Breese Central was within three with 9.9 seconds in the final quarter. But T-town got back on the scoring track with an 11-9 edge. T-town connected on seven free throws in the final period including two big ones by M. Hartke. Anna Hartke proved to be the big difference with two free throws in the quarter and a putback basket.

Madeline Hartke paced the Teutopolis attack with 22 points and pulled down six rebounds while Cierra Thompson chipped in with 12 points. Repking led in assists with four while A. Hartke pulled down eight rebounds.
