Renteria Agrees To Three-Year Deal To Manage Cubs

(Chicago, IL) -- Rick Renteria is the new manager of the Chicago Cubs.  The former San Diego Padres bench coach has agreed to a three-year deal to become the 53rd manager in Cubs' history. The deal includes club options for 2017 and 2018. Renteria replaces Dale Sveum, who was fired after the season. It's the first big league managerial job for the 51-year-old Renteria, who is currently recovering from hip surgery.

 

 

Molina, Carpenter Win Silver Slugger Awards

Major League Baseball has announced the winners of The Silver Slugger Awards. The honor is given annually to the top offensive performer at each position in both the American and National League. St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina and second baseman Matt Carpenter are both first-time winners of the award.
