Area Teams Compete in North Clay Baseball Showcase

Effingham St. Anthony High School captured two victories at the North Clay (Louisville) Baseball Showcase Saturday.

The Bulldogs defeated Altamont 4-2 and downed South Central 7-1.

In the Altamont contest, St. Anthony edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead then led 3-2 after the second and tacked on a final run in the fourth.

Eli Dasenbrock had two singles and two RBI for the Bulldogs.

In the South Central contest, the Bulldogs again took the early lead 2-1 after the first and tacked on a run in the third and four more in the seventh on the grand slam of Neil Williams. Williams also had a double.

North Clay 4, Teutopolis 1

North Clay tallied three runs in the third and went on to down the Wooden Shoes. Cox picked up the pitching win on a five-hitter with two walks and six strikeouts.

Clifton had a home run and two RBI while Stinnett hit a solo shot and Cox had a double and an RBI.

Niemerg led T-town with a double.

Patoka 3, Dieterich 2

Patoka tallied two runs in the fourth before Dieterich knotted the score in the sixth. Patoka then scored the winning run in the top of the eighth.

Patoka had only three hits led by Allen with a double and Miller with a single and two RBI. Dieterich was led by Bohnhoff with two singles and Traub with a double and an RBI.

Windsor Invitational

Brownstown/St. Elmo fniished in third place in the Windsor Invitational Saturday while Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg took second.

B/SE fell to Windsor/Stewardson-Straburg 3-1. Both teams had four hits in the contest. Nic Hutchison picked up the pitching win with two walks and nine strikeouts.

Derek Moschenrose had two singles and an RBI while Hayden Cole had a double for the winners. Levi Maxey led BSE with two singles.

Windsor/Stew-Stras then faced Putnam County, a winner over Mulberry Grove, and fell in a squeaker 2-1 for the championship. Windsor/Stew-Stras had only two hits, singles by Jacob Kramer and Josh Overbeck.

In the third place contest, Brownstown/St. Elmo was a 6-2 winner over Mulberry Grove behind six hits and five Mulberry Grove errors.

Landon Feezel led the hitting attack with two singles, a double and three RBI. Brownstown/St. Elmo is now 6-7 on the season and returns to action Tuesday in the Egyptian-Illini Conference Tournament against Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick at 7 p.m. at Vandalia.
