Cardinals Up by Two on Reds, Pirates

(Milwaukee, WI)  --  Carlos Beltran his a sac-fly in the top of the 10th inning as the Cardinals held on to beat the Brewers 7-6 at Miller Park.  Matt Adams lifted a two-run homer in the top of the ninth for the Cards, but the Brew Crew scored two in the bottom of that inning to send the game to extras.  Adams ended 3-for-5 with three RBI for St. Louis, which has won three-of-four to hold a two-game lead over Cincinnati and Pittsburgh in the NL Central.  Matt Carpenter went 3-for-5 with two runs in the win.  Matt Holliday also had three hits with two RBI.  John Axford picked up the win against his former team.  Carlos Martinez notched his first save.  Michael Blazek suffered the loss.  Aramis Ramirez was 3-for-4 with five RBI, including a three-run homer.  Norichika Aoki went 4-for-4 with three runs for Milwaukee.

(Pittsburgh, PA)  --  Joey Votto hit a solo homer in the top of the 10th inning to give the Reds a 6-5 win over the Pirates in Pittsburgh.  Devin Mesoraco knocked in two runs in the top of the ninth to tie the game and send it to extras.  Todd Frazier also hit a solo homer for Cincinnati, which has won four straight.  J.J. Hoover picked up the win and Aroldis Chapman notched his 38th save.  Kyle Farnsworth suffered the loss in relief.  Jose Tabata and Neil Walker each had a solo shot for Pittsburgh, which has lost four-of-five.  Both teams hold a Wild Card spot at 88-and-66.  They are also two games back of St. Louis in the NL Central.

>>Braves Use Four-Run Ninth To Sink Cubs

(Chicago, IL)  --  Andrelton Simmons' two-run double capped a four-run ninth inning as the Braves beat the Cubs 9-5 at Wrigley Field.  Chris Johnson went 3-for-4 with a double, homer and two RBI.  Freddie Freeman connected for his 22nd home run of the season.  David Carpenter picked up the win in relief, while Kevin Gregg was saddled with the loss.  The Cubs got solo shots from Starlin Castro, Donnie Murphy and Dioner Navarro.  Chicago has lost six of its last seven.

>>Scherzer Picks Up 20th Win As Tigers Rout White Sox

(Detroit, MI)  --  Max Scherzer picked up his elusive 20th win of the season as the Tigers rolled to a 12-5 win over the White Sox at Comerica Park.  Scherzer allowed three runs over six innings and moved to 20-and-3 on the season.  Victor Martinez hit a two-run homer and Torii Hunter went 4-for-5 with three RBI.  Prince Fielder and Andy Dirks each knocked in a pair for Detroit, which has won five out of six and lowered its magic number to clinch the AL Central down to three.  Avisail Garcia went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and three RBI for Chicago.  Dylan Axelrod was charged with seven runs in less than three innings and fell to 4-and-10.  The Sox have lost two straight.
