Cardinals Lose, Cubs Lose, Sox Lose

>>Liriano Tosses Gem As Pirates Beat Cardinals

(Pittsburgh, PA)  --  Francisco Liriano dominated on the mound to help the Pirates to a 5-0 win over the Cardinals at PNC Park in Pittsburgh.  Liriano allowed two hits and two walks while striking out six over eight innings to improve to 15-and-6.  Garrett Jones went 3-for-4 with a homer and four RBI to lead the Bucs while Russell Martin added a solo shot of his own.  Pittsburgh has won two out of three following a three-game skid.  Shelby Miller gave up five runs in four-and-a-third innings for St. Louis and fell to 12-and-9.  Matt Holliday was 2-for-3 with a walk in defeat as the Cards dropped their second straight after winning six out of seven.  The two teams are now tied atop the NL Central with identical 78-and-56 records.

>>Phillies Win Sandburg's Return To Wrigley

(Chicago, IL)  --  Michael Young blooped a go ahead RBI single into right field off Kevin Gregg as the Phillies beat the Cubs 6-5 in manager Ryne Sandberg's return to Wrigley Field.  It was Young's fourth hit of the game, and Kevin Frandsen added two hits including his fourth home run.  B.J. Rosenberg picked up his first victory of the season in relief, as he threw a scoreless eighth.  Jonathan Papelbon pitched a perfect ninth for his 23rd save of the year.  Kevin Gregg suffered his fourth loss, giving up one run on one hit and hit a batter.  Anthony Rizzo went 2-for-4 with his 21st home run, as the Cubbies have lost four-of-five.

>>Red Sox Sink White Sox

(Boston, MA)  --  David Ortiz knocked in two runs and walked twice as the Red Sox sank the White Sox 4-3 at Fenway Park.  Shane Victorino was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI for Boston, which has won five-of-six.  Ryan Dempster allowed three runs in six-and-a-third innings for the win.  Koji Uehara recorded four outs for his 15th save.  Hector Santiago slipped to 4-and-8 after allowing four runs in under four frames.  Avisail Garcia went 2-for-4 with a run drive in and two scored for Chicago, which saw its two-game win streak end.
