Belleville Wins State Title, Altamont Finishes Fourth

The Altamont American Legion Post #512 Junior baseball team picked up a win 2-1 Monday morning over the Jerseyville Post team in the Junior American Legion State Tournament at Paris.

The win moved Altamont into the tournament's Final Four. They then faced Danville and fell 7-3 thus ending their stay at the state tournament and finishing fourth.

In other scores Monday, Belleville defeated Moline 10-4 in winner bracket action. In loser bracket play, Danville beat Macon County 5-3.

In Tuesday's action, Moline edged Danville 5-4 to advance to the championship game against Belleville. Belleville had finished second at state last year and this time arouind blanked Moline 10-0 to win the state title.

Belleville Post 58 had 12 hits in the contest and Josh Davinory threw a three-hit shutout. Post 58 finishes the season with a 27-6-1 record. Belleville outscored its opponents 39-8 in the tournament.
