Shelby County Season Ends With Loss, Fifth Division Tourney Finals Set

Lincoln Post 263 handed Shelby County Posts 289-611-725 a 13-7 loss in an elimination game at the Fourth Division Senior Legion Tournament Thursday at Grimes Field in Mattoon.

Lincoln took a 6-0 lead in the second inning but Shelby County fought back with a three-run third. Gunnar Theis pounded out a grand slam home run in the seventh and Shelby County tied the score at 7-7. Tyler Hendrix drew a walk while Christian Vonderheide doubled and Jake Keown drew a walk to load the bases.

Lincoln came back in the eighth on a three-run homer by Robbie Meeker and put the contest in the win bracket.

Shelby County had nine hits in the game led by Theis with his grand slam and four RBI, Keown, Vonderheide, Hatfield and Hayden had a double each. Hayden had two RBI.

Shelby County ended the season with a 26-13 record.

FIFTH DIVISION TOURNAMENT

At Fairview Heights

Edwardsville and host Fairview Heights will meet for the tournament championship.

Fairview Heights blanked Murphysboro in action Thursday, 2-0. Edwardsville then edged Belleville 5-4.

The two winners meet for the championship today at 1 p.m. with a second game scheduled, if needed, at 7 p.m.
