Shelby County Falls to Mattoon Post 88

MATTOON -- Mattoon Post 88 handed Shelby County Posts 289-611-725 a 7-4 loss in the Fourth Division Baseball Tournament at Grimes Field in Mattoon Wednesday.

Shelby County took a 2-0 lead in the third inning but Mattoon came back with a two-run fourth to knot the score. The two teams were quiet over the next three innings before Mattoon pushed ahead 5-3 in the eighth then had a two-run ninth.

Mattoon banged out 10 hits in the contest led by Riley Walk with a single, double and three RBI, Clayton Warfel with two singles and Dustin Temple with two singles and two RBI.

Shelby County was led by Jake Keown with a single, triple and an RBI and Michael Baker with two singles.

Shelby County is back in action today at 5 p.m. against either Paris or Lincoln.
