Alec Quandt pitched a five-hitter but Effingham Post 120 lost to Belleville 2-0 Wednesday afternoon at the Senior American Legion Fifth Division Baseball Tournament in Fairview Heights.  The loss means the end of the season for the Post 120 seniors.

Quandt, who is planning to play football at Lindenwood University this fall, was focused on baseball during the contest, allowing just one earned run in eight innings of work.  He walked four in addition to allowing the five hits and struck out three.

Alex Sandheinrich, the Belleville hurler, pitched a six-hit shutout and did not walk a batter while striking out three. Sandheinrich will be a frehsman at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville.

Belleville (31-13) scored single runs in the third and the seventh innings to claim the win. The Hilgards' defense turned four double plays.

Dirk Levitt had two singles for Post 120, while Quandt, Carter Hayes, Clayton Ruckman and Tanner Traub also had base hits.

In other games, Fairview Heights defeated Aviston 11-3 and Edwardsville bounced Murphysboro 13-2. Today's schedule will have Belleville facing Murphysboro at 1 p.m. followed by Fairview Heights against Edwardsville, who is undefeated in the tournament, at 7 p.m. The winners advance to the championship game at 1 p.m. Friday with a second game, if necesary, at 7 p.m.
