Team Willenborg Wins Pony League Championship

Team Willenborg edged Team Donaldson 19-18 to win the championship of the Pony League Tournament Saturday.

Team Donaldson took an 8-0 lead in the top of the second. Team Willenborg fought back with six runs in the bottom of the frame and took a 10-8 lead in the third. Team Donaldson regained the lead with five runs in the second.

Team Willenborg tied the score at 15-15 in the fifth. Team Donaldson took an 18-15 lead in the top of the sixth and Team Willenborg came back with four runs in the bottom of the frame to pull out the victory.

Hoene had a single, three triples, a home run and seven RBI for the winners. Westendorf had three doubles and an RBI while Hartke had a double, home run and two RBI. Niebrugge had two singles, two triples and four RBI while Willenborg had three singles, two doubles and two RBI and Kuhlman three singles, a double and four RBI.

Hull had a single, triple, home run and five RBI for Team Donaldson while Pontious had three singles, a triple, home run and four RBI. Hartke added a double, triple and four RBI.

In quarterfinal round play, Team Willenborg trounced Team Walton 22-3 while Team Donaldson downed Team Pittman 27-4. Team Waymoth beat Team Sager 18-5 and Team McCoy won over Team Chasteen 15-9.

In the semifinals, Team Willenborg won over Team McCoy 26-7 and Team Donaldson edged Team Waymoth 21-20.
