Toledo Wins over Shelby County in Junior Legion Baseball

Toledo defeated Shelby County 9-3 Friday in their first game in the Junior Legion District baseball tournament at Baker Field in Charleston.

Toledo scored three runs in the third and four in the fourth, adding single runs in the fifth and sixth innings, pounding out 13 hits in the contest.  Shelby County totaled 10 hits, scoring in the third, fourth and seventh innings.

Zach Monroe went the distance for Toledo, allowing three runs on 10 hits, walking two and fanning nine batters.  Mark Jones gave up five runs on 10 hits in 3-1/3 innings of work, walking one and striking out three.  Nic Hutchinson pitched the last 2-2/3 innings, allowing four runs, two earned, on three hits and four walks while striking out one batter.

Shelby County is back in action at the district tournament today at 11:15am against the loser of the Mattoon #1 vs. Clark County game.
