Effingham High School graduate Chad Green has signed to play baseball with the Detroit Tigers.

Green just completed his junior year at the University of Louisville and helped lead his Cardinals baseball team to the College World Series.  He was drafted by the Tigers in the 11th round, the 336th overall pick.

Chad's father, Howard Green, said Chad was flown by the Tigers to Lakeland, Florida Monday and that Chad signed Tuesday morning.  Howard Green said Chad would be there a week to 10 days and then would be assigned to a short season Class A ballclub at Norwich, Connecticut.

Chad will not be without a familiar face as his begins his professional baseball career; his roommate and teammate at Louisville, Jeff Thompson was also drafted by the Tigers, has also signed with the team and is also in Florida, and will head with Chad to Connecticut.

We'll be in touch with Chad soon and let you enjoy that conversation.
