Vandalia Outdone By Effingham, 8-3

VANDALIA -- Nate McDonald went two-for-five and hit a home run as Effingham Post 120 Seniors defeated Vandalia 8-3 Thursday. McDonald also singled in the opening inning and hit a home run in the eighth inning.

Drew Levitt held Vandalia hitless over two innings and finished with four strikeouts. Effingham ended up with four more pitchers on the mound throwing Vandalia offstride. Effingham led 1-0 after the first and 4-0 after the third. Vandalia pulled within 5-3 after seven innings but Effingham came back with two in the eighth and one in the ninth.

Alec Quandt had three singles and drove in two runs for Effingham while Tanner Traub and Carter Hayes had a single and double each. Traub drove in a run. Devin Wright added a double.

Teutopolis, Shelby County Split Doubleheader

Teutopolis Post 924 claimed a 5-1 victory over Shelby County Posts 289/611/725 but Shelby County captured a 6-4 win in the nightcap of the doubleheader Thursday.

Teutopolis took a 2-0 first inning lead then had a two-run second. Justin Kenter picked up the pitching win, going five innings, allowing three hits, three walks and striking out five.

Tommy Flach had two singles, a triple and an RBI while Reed Hardiek had a single, double and two RBI.

In the second contest, Shelby County came back with a 6-4 win in six innings. Shelby County had eight hits while Christian Vonderheide, Trevor Moore and Gunner Theis combined in pitching the three-hit win.

Jake Keown and Neil Yockey had two singles each while Theis had a double and drove in two runs. Hayden Cole had a single and two RBI.

T-town was led by Cody Will with a triple and Josh Ungrund with a double.
