Altamont, Effingham Posts Friday Winners at Altamont Wooden Bat Tournament

Altamont and Effingham were winners in Friday action at the Altamont Summer Slam Wooden Bat Tournament for Junior American Legion teams.

Altamont's Junior Legion team downed Shelby County 11-2 while Effingham Post #120 won over Newton's Jasper Legion Post squad 5-2.

Altamont scored its 11 runs on just six hits, aided by 10 walks surrendered by Shelby County starter Tyler Hendryx in just 2-2/3 innings of work.  Altamont scored a run in the first inning, three runs in the second, another run in the third and six runs in the fifth inning of the five-inning game.  Shelby County scored its two runs in the fourth inning.

Nick Miller went five innings for the win for Altamont, allowing the two runs on six hits while walking three and fanning five.  Klaiton Wolff pitched a scoreless sixth inning, allowing one walk.

Hendryx allowed five runs, all earned for Shelby County on just two hits and recorded one strikeout.  Mark Jones pitched the final 2-1/3 innings, giving up six runs, all unearned, on four hits and a walk.

The Shelby County Juniors are now 1-2 on the season.

In their win over Newton, Effingham Post 120 tallied their five runs on seven hits and did not commit an error.  Newton picked up its two runs on four hits and committed two miscues.

Ryan Barnes went the distance for Effingham, allowing one earned run on four hits and two walks while striking out 10.  Houchin went the first three innings for Newton, allowing three runs, one earned, on four hits and five walks while fanning two.  Zuber pitched the final three innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits and a walk while striking out four.
