Effingham St. Anthony pulled out an 11-9 high school baseball victory over Altamont with heroics in the bottom of the seventh Thursday.in a game heard on 979 XFM.

The Bulldogs held a 4-0 opening inning lead as Eli Levitt drew a walk with one out, Brock Fearday and Connor Roepke followed with back-to-back singles before a walk to Aiden Lauritzen brought home a run. Max Koenig then slammed out a double, scoring three more runs.

But Altamont answered right back in the second inning. Wyatt Phillips reached base on an error. Keagan Schultz followed with a double. Kaidyn Miller then hit a ball and the throw to first was an error. Two runs scored, one for an RBI for Miller and the other on the error. Logan Cornett followed with a single. A sacrifice moved the two runners over and Nathan Stuemke then singled home both runs and the score was knotted at 4-4.

Altamont moved ahead in the fifth with two runs. E. Miller led off with a solo shot and was followed by another solo shot, this one by Jared Hammer.

St. Anthony retaliated with four runs in the bottom of the frame. Max Koenig led off the inning with a double and Will Fearday was hit by a pitch. The runners were sacrified over by Brock Jansen. Another sacrifice, this one by Sam Link, brought a run home. Beau Adams drew a walk and Levitt singled. B. Fearday doubled home two runs.  The Bulldogs led 8-6.

Once again, here came Altamont. Cornett led off the frame with a single and was sacrificed over by Shepherd. Stuemke then singled and two errors were committed on balls hit by Dillan Elam and Phillips and when the dust cleared, the Indians moved into a 9-8 lead.

St. Anthony then knotted the score at 9-9 with a run in the sixth as Brock Jansen singled and took second on a wild pitch. Adams then singled him home.

The Bulldogs then won the contest with two in the bottom of the seventh. Fearday drew a walk and Roepke followed with a home run.

St. Anthony improved to 4-1 on the season while Altamont dropped to 1-4.

South Central stepped out to a 3-0 opening inning lead and went on to blank Brownstown/St. Elmo, 8-0 Thursday.

Coen West pitched four innings for the win on the mound. He allowed one hit, two walks and struck out five.

South Central had seven hits in the game led by Chase Thompson, Aidan Dodson and Anthony Buonaura with two singles each and Jon Bursott with a double.

The one hit for Brownstown/St. Elmo was a single by Calin Chandler. BSE dropped to 1-3 on the season.

At Casey

Neoga scored the winning run in the ninth inning to down Casey-Westfield, 4-3 Thursday.

The Warriors took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning. Neoga came back to move ahead 3-1 in the top of the sixth.

However, Casey-Westfield scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the score and send the game into extra innings.

Brady Reynolds had four singles and drove in a run while Matt Propst had a single and an RBI.

Trey Sheehan picked up the pitching win, going two innings, allowing one run on two hits, one walk while striking out three.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City ended this contest over Mulberry Grove in the fourth inning by an 18-2 count Thursday.

The Bobcats moved ahead 2-1 in the first inning then held an 8-2 lead in the second. CHBC scored 10 runs in the fourth and that was the end of the contest.

CHBC had 10 hits in the contest led by Wyatt Rueff with three singles and three RBI, Conner Nowitzke with two singles and Jacob Doty with a double and three RBI.

Clayton Wojcik got the win on the mound.

Dieterich edged out to a 1-0 opening inning lead then broke the contest open with a 12-run third and finished with a 16-1 win over Martinsville in four innings Thursday.

The Movin' Maroons banged out 13 hits led by Noah Dill with a single, two doubles and six RBI while Garrett Niebrugge had two singles, a double and three RBI. Justin Boerngen added two singles and two RBI and Andrew Hall two singles. Jaxon Funneman and Lucas Westendorf had a single and two RBI each.

Lucas Westendorf threw the four innings allowing one run on two hits, one walk while striking out nine.

At Dieterich

Newton scored early and went on for a 9-3 victory over Richland County Thursday.

The Eagles tallied single runs in the first, second and seventh innings and three runs each in the fifth and sixth

Newton had nine hits and was aided by five Richland County errors.

Isaac Flowers hit a solo home run for Newton. Dalton Baltzell had three singles and drove in two runs. David Ferguson had two singles while Payton Harris had double and an RBI.

Dylan Gier was the winner on the mound, going five innings, allowing three runs on four hits, one walk while striking out seven.

North Clay/Clay City edged Carmi, 5-4 in action Thursday. The Cardinals improved to 5-2 on the season.
