NEOGA -- Teutopolis and Neoga went scoreless through the first four innings before the Wooden Shoes came to life with a four-run fifth and finished with a 7-1 high school baseball victory Tuesday in the season-opener for both clubs.

Evan Waldhoff led the Shoes offensively with a single, double, home run and four RBI. Ethan Thoele had two singles and drove in a run while Conner Siemer and Brett Kreke had a double each. Conner Hoelscher had the other RBI.

Ben Goeckner went three innings to pick up the win on the mound. He allowed no hits, three walks and struck out seven. 

Neoga's lone hit was a double by Gentry.

The Wooden Shoes are back in action Thursday at Sauget and will face Breese Central. Neoga returns to action Saturday and will host Central A&M at 10 a.m.

At Windsor

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg opened the season by blanking Tri-County, 10-0 in six innings Tuesday.

The Hatchets opened with a four-run fourth and ended the contest with a six-run sixth.

Jackson Gurgel led the way in hitting with two singles and two RBI. Rhett Rincker also drove in two runs. Five other players had one RBI each.

Austin Wittenberg was the winner on the mound, going three innings, allowing one hit while striking out five.

Newton took a 2-0 opening inning lead and went on for an 8-2 victory over Flora Tuesday.

The Eagles had one-run innings in the third and fourth and four in the sixth.

Newton had nine hits in the contest led by G. Reynolds with two doubles and four RBI. G. Bierman added a double and D. Baltzell had two singles and an RBI.

B. Einhorn picked up the pitching win, going five innings, allowing two runs on three hits, five walks while striking out seven.

Oakwood edged out to a 2-0 first inning lead on Dieterich and went on for a 6-1 win Tuesday.

The Comets had five hits in the contest and had two-run innings in the first, second and seventh.

Dieterich scored its lone run in the second. The Movin' Maroons had one hit, a single by Noah Dill.

Shelbyville came calling and blanked Brownstown/St. Elmo, 8-0 Monday.

Brachbill threw a no-hitter for the Rams, going all seven innings, allowing no hits, no walks while striking out 20.

Only one runner was on base for BSE, on an error.

Trimble, Nohren and Wells had a double each for Shelbyville while Hammond had two singles.

Brownstowtn/St. Elmo returns to action Friday at Hillsboro.

North Clay/Clay City dropped a 6-5 loss to Lawrenceville Tuesday.

The game was the season opener for the Cardinals. NC/CC is back in action Friday against St. Joseph-Ogden in te Metro East Kickoff Classic.
