Giants Double Up Cardinals

(St. Louis, MO) -- Buster Posey was 4-for-4 with a run scored as the Giants doubled up the Cardinals, 4-2. Brandon Belt knocked in two runs as a pinch-hitter in the seventh inning for San Francisco, which is 2-5 in its last seven games. Chad Gaudin gave up two runs in six innings for the win. Sergio Romo locked up his 15th save. Tyler Lyons allowed four runs in six-and-a-third frames for the loss. David Freese lifted a two-run shot for St. Louis, which had won the first two of this three-game series.

D'backs Down Cubs In Rubber Match

(Chicago, IL) -- Paul Goldschmidt drove in the go-ahead run during a three-run sixth inning as the Diamondbacks went on to double up the Cubs, 8-4, in the rubber match of a weekend series at Wrigley Field. Cody Ross added a two-run single in the sixth, while Wil Nieves finished 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored for Arizona, which has won five of its last seven. Gerardo Parra also plated a pair of runs in the victory.  Patrick Corbin gave up four runs over six innings to remain perfect on the season at 9-0. Scott Hairston hit a two-run homer for the Cubbies, who have lost two in-a-row after a season-high five-game winning streak. Edwin Jackson was tagged for seven runs, five earned, in less than six frames as he dipped to 1-8.

 

A's Pitch Past White Sox

(Oakland, CA) -- Jarrod Parker shut out the White Sox over six-and-a-third innings and three relievers finished the job in the A's 2-0 win.  Parker outpitched White Sox ace Chris Sale, who allowed one earned run on four hits in six innings. Jed Lowrie had two hits and Coco Crisp scored both runs. Parker improved to 4-6 and Sale fell to 5-3.  Grant Balfour earned his 13th save of the season. Oakland swept the three-game series and has won 14 of its last 16 games. Sale had a 28-inning scoreless streak snapped and lost for the first time in more than two months.

 

Marlins Sweep Mets

(Miami, FL) -- Greg Dobbs clubbed a three-run homer and Marcell Ozuna drove in four runs as the Marlins completed a three-game sweep of the Mets with an 11-6 victory in Miami.  Ed Lucas went 4-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, while Chris Coghlan finished 4-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored for the Fish, who had lost nine in-a-row coming into this series. Wade LeBlanc picked up the win in relief and improved to 1-5. Ike Davis hit a two-run homer and knocked in three, while Lucas Duda and Omar Quintanilla added solo shots for the Mets, who had won five in-a-row before this set. Scott Rice gave up three runs while recording just two outs for the loss.

Pirates Walk Off With Win Over Reds

(Pittsburgh, PA) -- The Pirates came all the way back from a four-run first inning for the Reds and won 5-4 on a walk-off single by Travis Snider in the bottom of the 11th inning. Pedro Alvarez and Garrett Jones hit home runs for the Pirates, who needed six pitchers with reliever Justin Wilson getting the win. Mat Latos pitched six innings and allowed two runs but did not get a decision.  Alfredo Simon was the losing pitcher to fall to 4-2. Zack Cozart and Todd Frazier had two hits for the Reds.

Braves Double Up Nats

(Atlanta, GA) -- Ramiro Pena clubbed a two-run homer and B.J. Upton hit a solo shot as the Braves doubled up the Nationals 6-3 in the rubber match of a weekend series at Turner Field. Freddie Freeman had a two-run double and Brian McCann also plated a run for the Braves, who have won four of their last six. Paul Maholm yielded three runs, two earned, in six innings of work as he upped his mark to 7-4. Craig Kimbrel closed it out for his 17th save. Ian Desmond homered and scored twice for the Nats, who have dropped four-of-five. Nathan Karns allowed four runs, three earned, in less than five frames to suffer his first loss in his second career game.

Phillies Hold Off Brewers

(Philadelphia, PA) -- Domonic Brown smacked a three-run homer and had four RBI to help the Phillies in a 7-5 win over the Brewers. Brown finished a double shy of the cycle for the Phils, who snapped a three-game skid. Freddy Galvis, Erik Kratz and Ryan Howard also plated a run each in the victory. Cliff Lee struck out a season-high 11 over seven-and-two-thirds innings of three-run ball as he improved to 7-2. Antonio Bastardo gave up a run in the ninth but held on for his first save. Jonathan Lucroy hit a three-run triple for Milwaukee, which has dropped seven-of-nine. Mike Fiers was rocked for seven runs, five earned, in less than two frames as he fell to 1-4.

Rockies Drop Dodgers

(Denver, CO) -- Dexter Fowler hit two home runs and had three runs batted in as the Rockies rolled to a 7-2 victory over the Dodgers. Michael Cuddyer and Todd Helton added solo shots to back seven solid innings from starting pitcher Jorge De La Rosa and help the Rockies claim the rubber match of the three-game series. Cuddyer finished with two RBI.  De La Rosa held the Dodgers to two runs on six hits while striking out five to move to 5-0 in his five Coors Field starts this season. Matt Magill, a rookie starting in place of the injured Hyun-Jin Ryu, took the loss after walking nine and allowing all the runs. Skip Schumaker went 2-for-3 and knocked in both L.A. runs with a second-inning double. The Dodgers finished a five-game road trip at 1-4.

Rays Top Tribe In Rubber Match

(Cleveland, OH) -- Evan Longoria and Yunel Escobar both hit two-run homers as the Rays topped the Indians 11-3 in the rubber match of a three-game series at Progressive Field.  James Loney drove in two and Kelly Johnson plated a run and scored twice for Tampa, which has won seven of its last eight. Jeremy Hellickson scattered nine hits and three runs over five innings as he improved to 3-and-2 with the victory. Mike Aviles knocked in two runs and Yan Gomes also had an RBI and scored for the Tribe, which fell for the seventh time in 10 games. Zach McAllister yielded five runs, four earned, in four-and-a-third frames as he slipped to 4-and-5.

 

Orioles Top Tigers

(Baltimore, MD) -- Chris Davis belted his 20th home run of the season to kick start a three-run seventh and help the Orioles top the Tigers, 4-2.  Danny Valencia and Nate McLouth also drove in a run during the decisive frame for Baltimore, which has won four of its last five  Kevin Gausman allowed one run in six innings, but Brian Matusz earned the win while Jim Johnson locked up his 18th save. Rick Porcello gave up three runs in six-plus frames for the loss. Prince Fielder belted a solo shot for Detroit, which has lost five-of-six.               

Twins Blank M's In Rubber Match

(Minneapolis, MN) -- Josh Willingham belted a two-run homer and knocked in three as the Twins blanked the Mariners 10-0 in the rubber match of a weekend series at Target Field.  Chris Herrmann hit his first career home run, while Ryan Doumit and Brian Dozier also hit solo shots for the Twins, who have won six of their last seven. Scott Diamond tossed six shutout innings to even his record at 4-and-4. Kendrys Morales had two of the five hits for the M's, who have dropped four-of-six. Jeremy Bonderman, making his first start since October 1, 2010 with Detroit, was rocked for seven runs in less than five frames to suffer the loss.

 

Profar Powers Rangers Past Royals

(Arlington, TX) -- Jurickson Profar lifted a solo home run in the eighth inning to power the Rangers past the Royals, 3-1. David Murphy added an insurance run later in the eighth.  Yu Darvish struck out six over seven innings of three-hit ball in a no decision for Texas, which has won three-of-four. Tanner Scheppers improved to 4-and-0 out of the bullpen while Joe Nathan locked up his 17th save. Alex Gordon was 2-for-4 with a run scored for Kansas City, which has alternated wins and losses the last four games. Ervin Santana allowed an unearned run over seven frames in the no decision. J.C. Gutierrez took the loss in relief.

Astros Hold Off Angels

(Anaheim, CA) -- Two insurance runs in the top of the ninth inning on a two-run single by Matt Dominguez became crucial as the Astros held on for a 5-4 win over of the Angels.  Hank Conger hit a two-run homer off of Brad Peacock in the bottom of the ninth, but it wasn't enough as Los Angeles has dropped the first three of a four-game set to Houston.  Carlos Corporan and Carlos Pena each hit solo shots to help Houston improve to 20-and-37. Jordan Lyles earned the win and Hector Ambriz tallied his second save. Mark Trumbo hit his 13th homer of the season in the loss. C.J. Wilson fell to 4-4 despite allowing only three runs and striking out nine in seven-and-a-third innings. The Angels are 25-32.

Red Sox Beat Yankees In Rain-Shortened Game

(Bronx, NY) -- Clay Buchholz tossed five innings of two-hit ball as the Red Sox defeated the Yankees 3-0 in a rain-shortened affair. The contest was called in the middle in the sixth frame after three delays. Buchholz struck out four and gave up two hits in the complete game as he improved to 8-0. Jose Iglesias and David Ortiz each had a solo homer for Boston, which won the final two games of this three-game series. Hiroki Kuroda allowed all three runs over five-and-a-third frames for the loss. Austin Romine and Ichiro Suzuki each had a hit for New York, which has lost seven-of-eight.
