Inability to get a timely hit cost the Teutopolis Wooden Shoes dearly Friday in semifinal action at the Class 2A state baseball tournament.  As a result, the Shoes lost a 2-1 heartbreaker to Lisle, missing out on a chance at a third state championship in four seasons.  The game at Peoria was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com.

The Shoes took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on one swing of the bat by Jared Waldhoff, who hit a line drive over the left field fence for a home run.

Unfortunately, that was the only time a Wooden Shoe would touch home plate in the game.

Meanwhile, Lisle put together a two-out third inning rally after an error, adding three singles and a hit batsman to plate two runs that led to the victory.

Kyle Pruemer was the tough luck loser for the Wooden Shoes, going the distance and allowing the two unearned runs on just four hits and one walk while striking out 10 batters.

Lisle lefthander Ryan Van Volkenburg scattered eight hits and three walks to post the win, fanning four Shoes hitters.

At the plate for Teutopolis: Jared Waldhoff--home run and walk...Chase Wendling--two singles, stolen base...Bobby Wenthe--walk...Alex Goldstein--single...Darren Probst--double, two singles...Reed Hardiek--walk...Cody Will--single.

Teutopolis still has a shot to win their final game of the season and reach the 30-win mark if they capture the third place contest.  The Shoes will play at 3pm in a game we'll have on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com

Teutopolis doesn't yet know who will be their opponent.  Eureka and Pleasant Plains haven't finished the other semifinal game, which was stopped by storms.  Eureka leads Pleasant Plains 2-0 in the bottom of the fifth.  The loser of the contest will meet the Wooden Shoes; the winner will play Lisle at 5:30pm Saturday for the 2A championship.
