Teutopolis to Sectional Championship Game; Hearts Into Regional Championship Contest

A seven-run fifth inning powered the Teutopolis Wooden Shoes to a 10-0 win over the Flora Wolves in 2A Sectional baseball action Wednesday.  The game at Teutopolis was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com.

It was a scoreless game when the Shoes broke through for two runs in the third inning and a single tally in the fourth before the big inning.

Teutopolis scored 10 runs on 10 hits and did not commit an error.  Jared Waldhoff won the contest for T-Town, allowing just three hits and one walk while striking out eight Flora batters.  Waldhoff improved to 7-0 on the spring.

At the plate for Teutopolis, Waldhoff doubled twice and drove in two runs, Chase Wendling singled and walked, Bobby Wenthe homered and walked, Kyle Pruemer singled twice, Alex Goldstein walked four times, Darren Probst walked, Derek Smith singled, Reed Hardiek doubled, singled and walked, and Cody Will singled and walked.

The Wooden Shoes improved to 27-3 on the spring and will play for the sectional championship on Saturday at 10am.  Hear the game on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com

Also in 3A Regional baseball, the Effingham Hearts held on for a 7-6 win over the Salem Wildcats in Olney Wednesday.

The Hearts stepped out to a 2-0 first inning lead on the Wildcats. Brayden Bone started the game off with a hit. With one out, Drew Levitt had a hit. Both runners came home.

In the third inning, the Hearts tallied four more runs to lead 6-1. Dirk Levitt singled home Carter Hayes and Devin Mayfield singled home Levitt.

EHS pushed across one more run in the fourth which would prove to be the game winner as Salem came roaring back. The Wildcats pulled within 7-2 in the sixth then tallied four runs in the final inning but just fell short.

Drew Levitt reached base three times for the Hearts with a single, double and walk. He had one RBI and scored twice. Kevin Daughtery picked up the pitching win on a five-hitter with no walks and seven strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings.

The win propels the Hearts into the regional championship game at noon Saturday against the winner of Thursday's Mattoon/Charleston game.
