Newton High School graduate Ross Wolf will be the starting pitcher today for the Texas Rangers against the Oakland Athletics.

In a report by Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News, General Manager Jon Daniels announced Tuesday that right-handed pitcher Nick Tepesch will be skipped in the rotation today because of a blister he got during the last pitch of his start Friday against Detroit. The blister needs a little more time to heal.

The Rangers recalled Wolf, age 30, from Triple-A Round Rock to start the game today. Wolf also is a candidate to stick around and start one of two games during a doubleheader scheduled Monday, May 27.

Wolf, who had not started a game since the end of his first professional season in 2002, joined Round Rock's patchwork rotation early in the season and has thrived. He has not allowed more than two runs in any of his six starts and has built up to pitching seven innings in his most recent outing  Friday aginst Colroado Springs. He has a 1-1 record and a 1.85 ERA with Round Rock.
