EHS Splits With Centralia; Frosh-Soph Compete At O'Fallon

Effingham High School fell in a baseball doubleheader against Centralia Saturday.

Centralia won 5-2 and 8-7. In the 5-2 loss, Centralia had eight hits in the contest led by Kessler with three singles and Smith with a home run and two RBI.

EHS had five hits led by Levitt with two singles.

In the 8-7 loss, Centralia banged out 11 hits. Brashear had two singles, a triple and an RBI and McReaken two singles, a double and two RBI.

EHS had 14 hits in the contest. Bone had two singles, a double, triple and an RBI while Levitt had two singles and an RBI, Levitt two singles and an RBI, Hayes three singles and two RBI and Vail a single, home run and two RBI.

The Hearts are now 16-13 on the season and finished tied for third in the Apollo Conference with a 5-5 record. The Hearts will be back in action today at the Olney Regional against host Olney.

O'Fallon Frosh/Soph Tournament

Effingham competed in the freshman/sophomore tournament, claiming one win and suffering two losses.

Effingham opened with a 4-2 loss to Edwardsville. Adam Koester suffered the pitching loss. Swayde Sanders had a double and Adam Koester a single.

In the second contest, Effingham edged Alton 3-2. Ryan Barnes was the winning pitcher. Barnes had three singles, a double and two RBI while Brennan Poland had two singles, Michael Woltman and Taylor Martin a single each.

In the final contest, Effingham lost to O'Fallon 6-0. Poland was the losing pitcher. Poland had a single, Woltman two singles and Reed Schafer and Barnes a single each. The Hearts end the season with an 8-5 record.
