Neoga, South Central Advance to Title Games

KINMUNDY -- South Central High School moved into the championship game of the Class 1A South Central Baseball Regional Thursday evening.

The Cougars trounced St. Elmo 12-0 in five innings via the 10-run rule. South Central edged out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning then brought home 10 runs in the fourth.

Shawn Meyer and Noah Powless combined to pitch a three-hitter with three walks and five strikeouts. Meyer moved his record to 3-3 on the season.

Kyle Bray had two singles, a solo home run and finished with three RBI for the winners. Austin Schwarm and Powless had a single and a home run each. Schwarm hit a solo shot and Powless had a three-run blow.

Garrett Bartels, Nick Bauer and Malachi Maxey had a single each for the Eagles three hits. St. Elmo ends the season with an 11-7 record.

South Central (8-14) moves into the title game Saturday at 11 a.m. against Altamont.

Class 1A Moweaqua Central A&M Regional

Neoga's Logan Rankin slapped out a walk-off single in the bottom of the 11th as the Indians edged Moweaqua Central A&M to advance to the championship.

Central A&M edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead then tacked on another run in the second. Neoga tied the score in the fourth but the Raiders pushed ahead 4-2 in the top of the fifth. However, Neoga came back with two runs, again to knot the score. Neither team could dent the plate over the next four innings.

Then in the 11th, Guy Walk hit a single to left field and reached third on a single by Tim Yurs. Walk then scored on Rankin's single through the infield.

Tyler Romack was the winning pitcher to move his record to 7-3. He went five innings allowing no hits, no walks and striking out 10.

Michael Baker had a single and two doubles, Yurs three singles; Jake Baker three singles and two RBI and Romack two singles.

Neoga will now meet Windsor at 10 a.m. Saturday for the regional championship.
