EHS Beats Dieterich, Area, Regional Roundup

DIETERICH -- Effingham High School was a hitting machine Monday evening in downing Dieterich 7-1 in a regular season baseball contest.

The Hearts banged out 16 hits in the game led by Drew Levitt with three singles and an RBI, Carie with two singles, Hayes with two singles and an RBI,  Frey with a single and double and Mahaffey with two singles and two RBI. Koester had a single and drove in two runs.

Meanwhile, Mayfield picked up the pitching win on a three-hitter with four walks and seven strikeouts.

Dieterich had three singles by Tanner Traub, Brandon Westjohn and Chris Lidy.

At St. Elmo

St. Elmo edged Okaw Valley 5-4 in a regular season contest. Both teams had seven hits in the game.

The score was tied at 1-1 after the first inning and Okaw Valley took a 3-1 lead in the top of the fourth and tacked on another run in the fifth. The Eagles came roaring back with four runs in the bottom of the seventh to pull out the victory and improve to 11-6.

Connor Beasley picked up the win on no hits, one walk and four strikeouts in two innings to improve to 6-2. Garrett Bartels went four-for-four with two singles and two doubles. Nick Bauer had a two-run walk-off single and two RBI. Levi Maxey added a double.

At Kinmundy

South Central improved to 7-14 on the season with an 8-1 victory over Cisne in regular season action.

Heath Hoffmann and Austin Schwarm produced the big bats for the Cougars with a single and a home run each. Hoffmann had a solo shot in the fifth and finished with three RBI while Schwarm had a two-run homer in the fourth and also finished with three RBI.

The Cougars will compete in the St. Elmo Regional today against Mulberry Grove at 7 p.m.
