EHS Takes Doubleheader; Area Roundup

Effingham High School captured a baseball doubleheader Saturday over Mount Carmel.

The Hearts won the opener 1-0 and claimed the nightcap 7-0 to improve to 14-10 on the season. EHS is back in action today at Dieterich.

In the opening game, Walker picked up the pitching win on a three-hitter with one walk and nine strikeouts. The Hearts had no hits in the contest. K. Daugherty had the lone RBI.

In the second game, EHS won behind nine hits. Bone, Mayfield and  Walker had two hits each. Walker drove in two runs while Mayfield and Heuerman had one RBI each. Bone was the winning pitcher on a one-hitter with one walk and four strikeouts.

At Effingham

Freshmen/Sophomore

Effingham fell twice in freshman/sophomore action. The Hearts lost to Taylorville 6-5 in eight innings.

In the second game, Effingham fell to Charleston 2-0. EHS is 7-11 on the season.

At Shelbyville

Teutopolis finished the regular season with a 24-3 record after downing Shelbyville Saturday 10-2.

The Rams took a 1-0 first inning lead but the Shoes came roaring back with three runs in the second and a five-run third.

T-town had 11 hits in the contest led by Waldhoff with a single, three home runs and seven RBI. Pruemer had a single and a double while Hardiek had a double and an RBI.

At Shelbyville

At Mattoon

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg split victories with Coal City Saturday.

The homestanders claimed the opener 2-1. Coal City held a 1-0 first inning lead but Windsor/Stew-Stras came back with two runs in the third. Cole had two hits. Vonderheide picked up the win throwing a five-hitter.

In the second game, Windsor/Stew-Stras lost 6-5. Coal City's six runs all came in the third inning. Windsor/Stew-Stras had seven hits in the contest led by Helmuth with three hits and an RBI and Allen with two hits.

At Grimes Field, Mattoon
