Cubs Edge Cardinals At Wrigley

(Chicago, IL) -- Nate Schierholtz blasted a two-run homer in the fourth inning as the Cubs went on to beat the Cardinals, 2-1. Travis Wood went six-and-two-thirds innings while allowing one run with eight strikeouts to pick up the win for Chicago, which has won two straight since a four-game slide.

Alfonso Soriano was 2-for-3 with a run in the victory and Kevin Gregg notched his fifth save. Lance Lynn gave up two runs across seven frames with eight strikeouts to fall to 5-1.  Lynn was seeking a 6-and-0 start to the season for the second straight year. Allen Craig's second inning homer provided St. Louis with its lone run. The Cards saw a six-game winning streak end.

Harvey Dazzles, Mets Edge White Sox In 10

(Flushing, NY) -- Matt Harvey was brilliant as the Mets picked up a 1-0 victory over the White Sox in ten innings.  Harvey allowed one hit over nine shutout innings while striking out 12, but didn't factor in the decision.

Mike Baxter delivered a pinch-hit, walk-off single to score Ike Davis in the 10th inning and lift New York to its third win in four games. Bobby Parnell was credited with the victory in relief, upping his mark to 3-0.
Alex Rios managed the lone hit for Chicago off Harvey, breaking up his perfect game with an infield single in the seventh. Hector Santiago gave up four hits and two walks while fanning eight in seven innings of work for the Sox. Nate Jones was charged with the loss as Chicago fell for the third time in four games.

Blue Jays' Happ Struck In Head, Leaves On Stretcher

(St. Petersburg, FL) -- Blue Jays starting pitcher J.A. Happ was taken off the field by a stretcher after he was struck in the head by a line drive Tuesday.  Happ was immediately floored by the shot off the bat of Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Desmond Jennings. Blood was seen coming from Happ's head as trainers rushed to attend to him.
