Teutopolis Sweeps Two to Move Above .500; BSE Wins E-I Tournament

The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes swept a doubleheader from the Altamont Indians Thursday to move above .500 on the fall.

Teutopolis won the opener, heard on KJ Country 102.3, 3-2, then took the nightcap 4-1. The Wooden Shoes are now 9-8 on the campaign. Altamont is now 10-6. 

Teutopolis won the opener on a bases loaded walk to Derek Konkel who, ironically, was the winning pitcher for the Shoes. Altamont had walked Kayden Althoff intentionally to load the bases ahead of the walk to Konkel. 

Teutopolis scored its other two runs in the third inning when with one out Sam Bushur doubled. Following a ground out, consecutive singles by Kayden Althoff and Derek Konkel brought home Bushur and Althoff. 

Altamont scored in the third on a leadoff single by Dillan Elam and a sacrifice fly by Nathan Stuemke. They added their other run on a single by Jared Hammer, a hit batsman, and a base hit by Elam. 

Both starting pitchers went the distance. Konkel allowed the two Altamont runs on seven hits and struck out seven without issuing a walk. Altamont starter Tyler Robbins went 6-2/3 innings, allowing the three runs on five hits and didn't issue a walk until the two in the seventh inning. He struck out two batters.

In the second contest, Teutopolis scored single runs in the second, fourth, fifth and sixth innings, while Altamont tallied their run in the third. The Shoes collected their four runs on just four hits, while Altamont had seven hits in the contest. 

Both teams pitched a bullpen game. For Teutopolis, Cade Buehnerkemper pitched 2-1/3 innings, allowing two hits and fanning three, Ben Goeckner went 2-2/3 innings, giving up an unearned run on four hits with a walk and a strikeout, and Caleb Siemer pitched two scoreless innings, allowing a hit and fanning two. For Altamont, Jared Hammer pitched three innings, giving up a run on one hit and three walks while striking out five, Wyatt Phillips went two innings, allowing two runs on three hits and three walks with two strikeouts, and Mason Winn threw an inning and allowing an unearned run with one walk and one strikeout.

Brownstown/St. Elmo won the Egyptian-Ilini Conference Tournament championship game Thursday, 5-3, over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City.

BSE had a big four-run fourth inning to follow up a single run in the third, banging out 11 hits in the contest. CHBC staged a late inning rally, scoring in the sixth and then plating two runs in the seventh. The Bobcats scored their three runs on just four hits in the game.

Dalton Myers went 6-2/3 innings to claim the win, allowing two earned runs on four hits, walking six and striking out seven. Brady Maxey got the final out to pick up the save. Buzzard took the loss for CHBC, allowing the five runs and 11 hits while walking one and fanning five.

Adam Atwood had three hits for BSE and drove in a run, Brady Maxey singled, Wyatt Chandler singled and drove in a run, Wyatt Forbes had three base hits, Lukas Miller singled, Nick Nelson doubled and drove in a run, and Wyatt Stine singled.

For CHBC, Buzzard, Schlanser, Davis and Evans each singled. 

BSE went 3-0 in the tournament, and the Bombers are now 11-6 on the fall. CHBC finished 2-1 in the tournament.

Odin came calling and picked up a 5-2 win over Dieterich in a non-conference matchup.

Both teams had six hits in the game. Odin stepped out to a 5-1 opening inning lead and never looked back.

Noah Dill led Dieterich with a single, home run and one RBI. Pete Britton added a single and an RBI and Shawn Crutcher two singles.

D. Belchor threw a six-hitter with one walk and eight strikeouts for Odin.
