Texas 4, Chicago Cubs 2

CHICAGO -- After the Cubs' offense seemingly felt miles away all night Tuesday, it came within an inch or two of pulling through at the end.

Chicago did not have a runner advance past second base against Derek Holland and the Rangers until the ninth inning, when a furious rally ended at the hands of a diving Craig Gentry in center field.

Darwin Barney, seeing his first game action this year after a leg injury postponed his 2013 debut, battled Rangers closer Joe Nathan for eight pitches in the game's ultimate at-bat.

It culminated with the bases loaded, a 79-mph 2-2 curveball, a line drive to center, Gentry's sprawling effort and a 4-2 Rangers win.

Cardinals, Pirates Postponed

PITTSBURGH -- Having already endured a one-hour, 23-minute rain delay and with a steady line of storms expected to hover over Pittsburgh throughout the evening, the Cardinals-Pirates game at PNC Park was postponed Tuesday night. A makeup date was not immediately announced.

"They were talking after midnight," manager Mike Matheny said of the weather reports. "That didn't excite us a whole lot. We would have rolled either way. Not a big deal for us to be able to give our pitching another day. I'm sure they're saying the same thing over there."

The postponement erases all stats from a game the Pirates were leading, 4-2, through two innings. That means starter Jake Westbrook's ERA goes back down to 0.00, and outfielder Shane Robinson is still waiting to officially make his first start of the season. Matt Holliday and Yadier Molina each lost an RBI.

Chicago White Sox 4, Toronto 3

TORONTO -- It took the White Sox until the late innings to finally break through against the Blue Jays after struggling at the plate for much of the night.

Then, it was up to closer Addison Reed to contain a Blue Jays lineup that came roaring back in the final frame.

Dayan Viciedo came through with a go-ahead RBI double in the ninth inning, Paul Konerko scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly and Reed held off a Blue Jays rally to help propel the White Sox to a 4-3, come-from-behind win over the Blue Jays at Rogers Centre on
Tuesday.

Yankees Support Bostonians With "Sweet Caroline"

(Bronx, NY) -- The Yankees are showing support for their counterparts from Boston. Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline" was played in the third inning of Tuesday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The song is a staple at Red Sox games at Fenway Park. The Yankees played the song as a gesture to those suffering following the Boston Marathon bombings.
