San Fransciso 10, Chicago Cubs 7

CHICAGO -- By the end, a balk was really all that remained. The Cubs had been hurt from the mound in just about every conceivable way -- wild pitches, walks, a passed ball and a home run -- up until that point in the 10th inning before the last blow proved to be the most devastating.

After a day of Cubs pitching miscues, reliever Shawn Camp froze with men on first and third and one out in a tied extra-innings game. He was quickly called on it -- a balk, said home-plate umpire Jeff Nelson -- and Giants catcher Hector Sanchez trotted home with the go-ahead run in what would end up being a wild 10-7 Giants victory on Sunday afternoon at Wrigley Field.

Milwaukee 4, St. Louis 3

ST. LOUIS -- Despite all the momentum built in between, the Cardinals' six-game homestand ended the way it started -- with their bullpen crumbling late and Jason Motte's absence magnified by the tough time Mitchell Boggs has had trying to fill in as the closer.

The Cardinals watched a three-run lead dissolve in the eighth and ninth before Milwaukee used Jonathan Lucroy's 10th-inning homer to escape with a 4-3 win in front of 42,645 at Busch Stadium on Sunday. It closed the Cardinals' homestand with bookend games in which Jaime Garcia was denied a win because of the bullpen's inability to hold a lead.

Chicago White Sox 3, Cleveland 1

CLEVELAND -- The White Sox really couldn't have asked for more from starting pitcher Jake Peavy than the dominant effort they received from the right-hander during Sunday's 3-1 victory over the Indians at Progressive Field.

It wasn't perfect like former teammates Mark Buehrle or Philip Humber presented to the franchise in 2009 and 2012, respectively. In reality, Peavy's first pitch of the game was hit over the right-field wall by Michael Bourn.

After that blip, the Indians (5-6) didn't do much against the right-hander over his seven innings of work. And that sort of effort was just what was needed by a team in the throes of a miserable five-game losing streak.

Braves Sweep Nats, Have Baseball's Best Record

(Washington, DC) -- The Braves completed a convincing sweep of the division-rival Nationals Sunday in Washington, DC. The Braves beat Washington 9-0 behind a strong performance by Paul Maholm, who moved to 3-0.  Atlanta is now a MLB-best 11-1 on the season and is riding a nine-game winning streak.

Dodgers And Padres Meet Tonight After Last Week's Brawl

(Los Angeles, CA) -- Fireworks could be on display tonight in Los Angeles as the Dodgers host the San Diego Padres to start a three-game series. The teams are fresh off last Thursday's meeting in San Diego which was marred by a bench-clearing brawl. Both sides have said there shouldn't be any carry over from last week's incident into this week's series.
