Bone and Walker combined to pitch a one-hitter as Effingham High School downed Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg 7-2 in baseball action Wednesday.

The Hearts stepped out to a 2-0 first inning lead then had a five-run fifth. Windsor/Stew-Stras scored its two runs in the sixth.

Bone pitched 5.1 innings, allowing no hits, two runs, five walks and striking out one. Walker came on to pitch 1.2 innings, allowing one hit, no walks and striking out three.

Hayes had three singles and drove in three runs for the Hearts. Vail added a double and two RBI while Heuerman had two singles and an RBI.

Windsor/Stew-Stras' lone hit came from Theis with a single and an RBI.

In freshman/sophomore play, Effingham blanked Windsor/Stew-Stras 6-0. Blake White had two singles and an RBI while Taylor Martin had a double and an RBI and Eli Buhrman two singles. The Hearts improve to 4-2.

At Vandalia

Altamont captured an easy win over host Vandalia by a 9-1 count Wednesday.

The Indians trailed Vandalia 1-0 after two innings then tallied a run in the third to knot the score. Altamont pushed ahead with three runs in the fourth, tacked on three more in the fifth and finished out the sixth with two.

Ruckman had three singles for the winners while Kuhns had two singles and an RBI and Armstrong two singles. Ziegler picked up the pitching win on a three-hitter with five strikeouts.
