St. Anthony, South Central, Neoga Claim Baseball Wins

Effingham St. Anthony broke a 1-1 opening inning tie against Newton and went on for an 11-4 victory in high school baseball action Wednesday.

The Bulldogs led 4-1 after three innings. The Eagles pulled within 4-3 in the fourth but St. Anthony had a 5-1 fifth inning run and that was the game.

Half of St. Anthony's hits were for extra bases. The Bulldogs banged out two home runs and five doubles.

Colton Fearday had a double, home run and two RBI while Eli Moore had a single, home run and an RBI.

Logan Antrim finished with two singles and a double. Will Hoene and Angelo Mendella had a single and double each. Mendella drove in two runs. Brody Niebrugge had a double and an RBI.

Antrim also was the winning pitcher on the mound, going six innings, allowing four runs on eight hits, four walks and striking out eight. Eli Levitt came on to finish the final inning with a walk and strikeout.

Leading the Eagles in hitting were Carder Reich with two singles and William Geier and Mason Schafer with a double and an RBI each.

St. Anthony pushed its record to a perfect 10-0 on the season.

At Altamont

South Central and Altamont played through two innings without scoring a run and went through five with the Cougars leading 1-0.

Almost all of the scoring came in the final two innings as South Central led 5-2 after six and finished with a 9-2 victory with four in the seventh.

Chase Dodson went 6.2 innings allowing two runs on three hits while striking out 12 for the win.

Beau Jolliff had a single, double and two RBI for the winners. Brandt Hiestand had a single and drove in two runs while Sebastian Cowger had a double.

Altamont was led by Mason Robinson with a double and two RBI.

At Neoga

Neoga stepped out to a 1-0 first inning lead and downed Dieterich, 8-3 in Wednesday action.

The Indians had an 11-10 edge in hits. Nate Lacy led the way for Neoga with a single, double, triple and four RBI. Treyton Vaughn added three singles, Adam Fearday two singles and an RBI and Isaac Walk a single and two RBI.

Luke Romack went six innings, allowing one run on seven hits, one walk and three strikeouts for the win.

Dieterich was led in hitting by Garrett Niebrugge with three singles, Seth Bushur with two singles and an RBI and Pete Britton with a double.

At Neoga
