Bulldogs Edge South Central; Area Roundup

Zach Gardewine pushed his pitching record to 3-0 as Effingham St. Anthony High School edged South Central 5-4 Wednesday.

"It was a win despite giving 10 innings worth of outs," said St. Anthony Coach Kenny Miller. "Zach Gardewine was fabulous."

The Cougars held a 2-1 first inning lead but St. Anthony took a 3-2 lead in the third. South Central pushed ahead 4-3 in the fifth. Here came the Bulldogs again, this time in the sixth with two runs.

Austin Bushue hit a two-run homer for the Bulldogs in the third. St. Anthony improves to 7-1 on the season and will be back in action Friday hosting Robinson at Evergreen Hollow Park at 4:30 p.m.

At Odin

St. Elmo blasted Odin 18-4 behind a 14-hit attack. Noah Flowers picked up the pitching win on a seven-hitter with no walks and five strikeouts to improve to 1-1.

The Eagles stepped out to a 3-0 first inning lead and never looked back with six-run innings in the sixth and seventh.

Levi Maxey had a single and two doubles for the Eagles while Garrett Bartels had three singles, a double and four RBI. Flowers went three for three with three singles  and two RBI and Nick Bauer had two singles and three RBI.

The Eagles improve to 1-2 on the season and will be back in action today at Pana.
