Henry "Hank" Aaron passed away today at the age of 86.

The legendary Atlanta Braves player was born in 1934 in Mobile, Alabama. In 1951 he began his pro career in the Negro Leagues and became a Major League player with the Milwaukee Braves as a 23-year-old. The Braves later moved to Atlanta and so did Aaron.

He hit .280 during his rookie season and had 13 home runs. That set him on the course for 755 home runs by 1954. He was named National League Most Valuable Player during his fourth season with the Braves. From 1957 to 1973 he hit at least 25 home runs every year.

He was known as Hammerin' Hank and in 1974 he broke Babe Ruth's home run record of 714. He retired after the 1976 season and became director of player development with the Braves.

Aaron still held the runs batted in record with 2,297 and total base leader with 6,856. He had a total of 755 home runs in his career and that record stood until 2007 when Barry Bonds broke it and finished with 762 home runs.

He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1999. He received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2010 from President George W. Bush.
