Spencer Johannes pitched a three-hit shutout and Beau Jolliff and Chase Dodson homered as the South Central Cougars defeated the North Clay Cardinals 5-0 in the third place game of the National Trail Conference Baseball Tournament Friday evening. The game at Kinmundy was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com

Johannes, a stylish left-hander, surrendered a double and single to Carson Burkett and a triple to Brady Ingram for the Cardinals' only hits. He only walked two and struck out six in his route-going performance.

The game was scoreless, though, until the fourth inning. Chase Dodson led off the inning with a single, then Jolliff turned on a pitch and deposited it over the right field fence to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead.

In the fifth, after two were out, Ethan Watwood reached on an error. Chase Thompson singled and that set the stage for Dodson's three-run line drive homer over the left field fence.

The Cougars garnered their five runs on just five hits. Dodson and Jolliff each had two hits, singles to go with their home runs, to join Thompson's single.

North Clay's pitchers did well. Holden Clifton pitched five innings and allowed the five runs, but only two were earned. Clifton allowed four hits and walked two while striking out five. Brady Ingram threw a clean sixth inning and picked up a strikeout.

South Central finished their fall campaign with an 18-4 record, while North Clay ended the campaign at 15-9.
