The St. Anthony Bulldogs are headed to the championship game of the National Trail Conference Baseball Tournament after posting their second one-run win this week. The Buldogs held off the South Central Cougars 8-7 in action heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com

That game, and Altamont's 9-6 win over North Clay, set up the finals on Friday. Third-seeded St. Anthony will play at top-seeded Altamont for the tournament championship at 4pm on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com. Fourth-seeded North Clay will play at second-seeded South Central at 4pm on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com

St. Anthony posted three runs in the top of the first. Logan Antrim walked and Kennan Walsh singled to start the game. With two outs, Will Hoene singled home both runners, then Connor Roepke singled and courtesy runner Brock Jansen stole a base, then Eli Levitt's infield single scored the third run.

South Central got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first when Chase Dodson hit a missile over the left field fence to make it 3-1.

There was no further scoring until the bottom of the third when South Central scored five times to take a 6-3 lead. Ethan Dunn led off the inning with a walk, then with one out Chase Thompson singled. After a strikeout, Beau Jolliff walked, Sebastian Cowger singled home two runs to tie the game 3-3, then Aidan Dodson homered over the left center field fence to give the Cougars the three-run lead.

The Bulldogs got right back in the game with two runs in the fourth inning. Josh Blanchette doubled and Beau Adams walked. Colton Fearday reached on an error that scored one run and a ground ball brought home the other and St. Anthony was back within 6-5. The Bulldogs scored in the fifth when Eli Levitt walked and Beau Adams tripled him home to tie the game 6-6.

Then came a nightmarish sixth inning when a combination of wild pitches, passed balls and an error allowed St. Anthony to score twice to take an 8-6 lead.

South Central scored in the sixth to pull within 8-7. Sebastian Cowger doubled and the Cougars brought him home.

There was still hope for South Central in the seventh, but Bulldogs' starter Logan Antrim retired the Cougars in order, striking out the side to post the win.

Antrim went the distance, allowing six earned runs on five hits, walking two and striking out nine.

Aidan Dodson took the loss in relief for South Central, going 2-1/3 innings, allowing no runs but three walks and one strikeout. He relieved Chase Dodson, who went 4-2/3 innings and allowed six runs, five earned, on seven hits and four walks while striking out nine.
