Neoga Defeats St. Anthony 3-1 in High School Baseball

The Neoga Indians grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first inning and made it stand up as they defeated the St. Anthony Bulldogs, 3-1, Thursday evening. The contest at Paul Smith Field at Community Park in Effingham was heard on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com

The Indians plated the pair of first inning runs after Nate Lacy's leadoff double, a passed ball, and a Brady Reynolds sacrifice fly, followed by a two-out walk to Kaden Young, a stolen base, another passed ball and a balk. 

St. Anthony responded in the bottom of the frame after Eli Moore led off with a triple and Brody Niebrugge doubled him home to make it 2-1, but that was the only run in the contest for the Bulldogs.

St. Anthony had just two more hits in the game, although they worked six walks and had a hit batsman.

Neoga added an insurance run in the third following a leadoff double by Kaden Young.

Neoga is even on the fall at 4-4 with the win, while St. Anthony is now 6-3 on the campaign. Neoga plays at Teutopolis Friday, while St. Anthony takes on Windsor/Stew-Stras.

Luke Romack got the win for Neoga with two innings of work, allowing one run on two hits and three walks. Bryar Hennesay went 1-2/3, walking three. Will O'Dell pitched 1-1/3 innings with one walk and one strikeout. Kaden went one inning, hitting a batter and fanning a batter. Nate Lacy pitched the final inning, giving up a hit with a strikeout.

Brody Niebrugge took the loss for St. Anthony, allowing two runs on a hit and two walks, balking a run home and striking out two. Kennan Walsh pitched four innings, allowing one run on five hits, walking one and fanning four. Josh Blanchette pitched the final two innings, walking two and striking out two.

In junior varsity action, St. Anthony claimed a 6-1 victory.

The Bulldogs tallied five in the first and one in the fourth behind a seven-hit attack.

Brock Jansen had a single, double, triple and two RBI for the Bulldogs while Max Koenig had a double and two RBI, Teddy Dietzen a double and an RBI and Connor Roepke a double.

Neoga was led by Quintin Richards, Eli Rentfro and T. Vaughn with a single each.
